Meeting Dedicated to the 15th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization
On December 1, 2021, a Meeting Dedicated to the 15th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization held in the capital Ashgabat on November 28, 2021 took place at the conference hall of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The meeting was attended by the faculty and students of the Institute. During the event, the speakers discussed about the significance and results of the Summit, especially the activities of the Economic Cooperation Organization. It is known that this year Turkmenistan is chairing the Organization. As it was emphasized in the speeches, the summit has been very productive in finding solutions to the problems of various issues in the world and in the region in general as well as in achieving common goals.
As it was noted during the Summit, substantial solutions are required for the need to expand and deepen cooperation in the field of technology, communication, financial banking, the formation of transport and transit corridors, to implement programs and projects implemented by the ECO. Because these areas serve as a basis for global economic development.
Taking advantage of the existing competitive advantages, during the Summit of the Organization the following were highlighted:
1) the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan power line;
2) the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline;
3) the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan railway line.
Turkmenistan’s East-West and North-South transit corridors are among the priority areas.It was stressed that there is a need to establish and develop cooperation with other international organizations such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the Asian Development Bank, and other regional and international organizations.
Following the summit, the Ashgabat Consensus for Action was adopted.
Furthermore, the 15th ECO Summit in Ashgabat chaired by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed that independent and neutral Turkmenistan has a responsible approach to the development of productive cooperation both bilaterally and multilaterally, as well as within the framework of international organizations.
All those present at the conference held at the Institute expressed their sincere gratitude to the President for the efforts for the benefit of the peoples of the world and for the common good of the country and wished him a long life.
