UNESCO CLUB IS TWO YEARS OLD!
Turkmenistan's large-scale international cooperation with the United Nations and UNESCO, the organization dealing with education, science, and culture, is being implemented within the framework of multi-faceted collaboration, aimed at increasing students' knowledge about UNESCO's work in the interest of humanity. UNESCO Clubs have been opened in several schools and continue their fruitful work.
UNESCO is a specialized United Nations agency for education, science, and culture, which includes cultural sites in the World Heritage List. Turkmenistan became a full member of UNESCO on August 17, 1993, by ratifying the relevant document in London. In 1994, Turkmenistan joined the UNESCO Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. To date, more than 1,000 historical and cultural monuments have been identified and registered on the territory of Turkmenistan.
UNESCO Clubs are unique voluntary organizations functioning under the auspices of the UNESCO. These clubs play an important role in promoting UNESCO’s goals at the local and international levels, contributing to the development of education, the preservation of cultural heritage, and fostering mutual understanding among peoples.
In October 2022, a solemn ceremony for the opening of the UNESCO Club "Culture of Peace" took place at the Institute of International Relations of the MFA of Turkmenistan. This project was created with the joint participation of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Affairs and the High School of Diplomacy.
It is worth noting that the institute's students, postgraduates, master students, and teachers, as active members of the UNESCO Club "Culture of Peace," under the careful guidance of their teacher and Club Council head Aygozel Ashirova, deeply study and conduct events promoting UNESCO's humanistic principles and ideals.
Teachers of the Institute’s Department of Social Sciences regularly hold events for participants and inform them in detail about the plans and upcoming activities of the UNESCO Club "Culture of Peace." Future plans include participation in scientific and educational projects, cooperation with public organizations, cultural centers in our country, and regional UNESCO Clubs Associations.
