SCIENTIFIC-PRACTICAL CONFERENCE «FUTURE PROSPECTS OF COOPERATION BETWEEN TURKMENISTAN AND WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION»
On April 29, 2024, at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan was held a scientific and practical conference entitled «Future prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and World Trade Organization» organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, The Turkmen State Institute of Economics and Management, the Turkmen State Institute of Finance, as well as professors and students of The International University for Humanities and Development.
At the meeting, Atageldi Haljanov, the head of the Department of International Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan, Ilham Yarashov, the head of the Department of Cooperation with the World Trade Organization of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, Gurbangeldi Ashyrov, the member of the Committee on Economic Affairs of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the speech of Anna Varyanik, legal affairs Officer at World trade Organization was delivered via digital system.
During the meeting speakers emphasized that On February 22, 2024, under the chairmanship of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, a meeting of the Presidium of the Halk Maslakhaty mentioned about future prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and World Trade Organization. The participants of the meeting noted the active dynamics of Turkmenistan's partnership with the WTO, the ultimate goal of which is the country's becoming a full member in this Organization.
On April 26, 2024, a regular meeting of the Government Committee on studying issues related to Turkmenistan's membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO) was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. As it is known, in July 2020, Turkmenistan received the observer status in the WTO, and in February of this year, during a regular meeting of the WTO General Council, a decision was made to grant Turkmenistan the status of an acceding country ("active observer") to the WTO.
The participants also considered a number of priority issues regarding the continuation of work on enhancing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the WTO and further strengthening the bilateral partnership.
At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed sincere gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Hero-Arkadag for their multifaceted work in the international cooperation in the field of foreign trade relations of Turkmenistan.
