INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE “JOINT EFFORTS IN STRENGTHENING PEACE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”
On 11 December 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted an international conference “Joint Efforts in Strengthening Peace and Sustainable Development” at the Yildiz Hotel on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan and International Neutrality Day. Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States, the United Nations and the European Union made speeches on the topical issues at the conference.
The international conference continued its work at separate thematic sessions: ‘Sustainable Development as a Basis for Peace and Trust’ at the Yildiz Hotel, ‘Trust between People and the Role of International Organisations’ at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, ‘Innovative Approaches to Building Trust’ at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Professors, teachers and students of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan participated in the thematic session titled “Trust between Peoples and the Role of International Organisations”.
Rector of the Institute for Foreign Relations of the MFA of Turkmenistan Gulshat Yusupova, Head of the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross Serhan Aktoprak, Regional Director of the International Labour Organization Beata Andrees, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office Amir Pirich, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Estonia to Turkmenistan Jaap Ora, Senior Counsellor of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs of UN Akylbai Eleusizov, Head of Turkmen – Austrian Society Neda Berger, Deputy Director of the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Yukiko Iriyama presented their speeches.
The speakers highlighted the significant role of neutrality of Turkmenistan in international relations and its contribution to solving global issues. They also congratulated all participants and the people of Turkmenistan on the International Day of Neutrality.
During the conference, the Turkmen side emphasized initiatives aimed at addressing issues of common security, peace and sustainable development, energy security, transport diplomacy, environmental protection and strengthening humanitarian relations. In particular, the speakers discussed the following resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly on the basis of Turkmenistan's initiatives: “2025 - Year of Peace and Trust”, “Central Asia - Zone of Peace, Trust and Cooperation”, “Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia” and “United Nations Games”.
At the end of the international conference, the participants expressed their best wishes for continued success to Arkadagly Hero Serdar and Hero Arkadag for their dedicated efforts in strengthening global peace, security, prosperity and mutual trust.
