Conference on the Significance of the online speech by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly
On September 24, 2021, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a conference on the historical significance of the President’s speech at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations (New York City) as well as the heads and lecturers of the higher educational institutions of the country made speeches at the conference. Representatives of embassies and international organizations operating in our country, the students and teaching staff of the higher education institutions of the country, representatives of the media and other institutions attended the conference.
A high-level session of the UN General Assembly is held annually in New York in September. The main items on the agenda of this year’s 76th session focused on coronavirus, climate change and the situation in Afghanistan.
In his historic online speech made on September 23, 2021, the President expressed confidence that all members of the United Nations could succeed in combating the common threat. At the same time, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov identified the World Health Organization as a key platform for multilateral dialogue on the development of effective responses to common challenges, and made a number of proposals on the establishment of international and regional mechanisms within the framework of WTO to combat and deepen the study of coronavirus. Esteemed President also stressed the need to intensify work to restore international transport systems and strengthen their stability under the circumstances. In his speech, the President noted a number of issues related to the situation in Afghanistan and made proposals on the Aral Sea. At the end of his speech, the President invited the participants of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly to the International Forum on the Year of Peace and Trust to be held in our country late 2021.
During the conference, the participants exchanged views on the importance of the key issues raised by the President in his speech and the implementation of new scientific approaches in this field. In particular, Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and Minister of Foreign Affairs, set a number of tasks before the National School of Turkmen Diplomacy. In this regard, the Minister stressed the need to study the program speech of the President at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly and the international initiatives put forward by the President in order to realize them in practice. He also emphasized that it would expedient to introduce a new special discipline in this field at the higher educational institutions, especially at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and to write scientific papers by students.
