for organizing and holding an essay competition in English called under the title “History of UN Preventive Diplomacy” on the occasion of the United Nations Day among students of higher educational institutions of the country. The competition is conducted with the purpose of implementing the Concept for the improvement of teaching foreign languages in Turkmenistan and the Concept for the development of the digital education system in Turkmenistan approved by the Decrees of the President of Turkmenistan and introducing innovations in the field of education, increase the enthusiasm of students for foreign languages.
General rules
This Regulation is a regulatory document for organizing and conducting the English language course competition among students of higher educational institutions of the country and determines the procedure for conducting it.
Identifying bright, talented and capable young people who are loyal to the country, our people, our Hero Arkadag and the President of Turkmenistan is an essential task. It is known that the educational system of Turkmenistan is harmoniously integrated into the scientific and educational space of the world. In addition to the Turkmen language, which the state language of the country, English is attached great importance in the language policy of the country.
The knowledge of foreign languages contributes to the free use of information technologies and the increase of the intellectual level of the individual. The growth rate of learning foreign languages in Turkmenistan is directly related to the country’s active participation in regional and global projects. Therefore, knowledge of foreign languages is of great importance in promoting reforms, achievements, national heritage, material and spiritual values. Based on this, necessary conditions are created to improve teaching foreign languages at all stages of the education system.
Thus, holding a language competition among the higher educational institutions of the country online will show that Turkmenistan has fully transitioned to the digital education system and that our young people are capable of using innovative technologies.
Holding this competition during the week dedicated to the UN Day will help students learn more about this universal organization, identify talented young people who are able to independently solve problems and use innovative technologies in the rapidly developing market economy of Turkmenistan.
Purpose of the competition
1. To reveal and develop students’ creative abilities;
2. To increase students’ motivation to study English as one of the official languages of the United Nations and the language of diplomacy;
3. To increase students’ knowledge about the UN system and the activities of the UN;
4. To develop students’ writing skills in English.
Tasks of the competition
1. To develop students’ language skills;
2. To boost the interest of young people in learning foreign languages;
3. To identify intelligent and capable youth, to develop their intellectual capabilities;
4. To promote mutual communication of higher education institutions through digital information and communication technologies.
Terms of the competition
1. Students studying in higher educational institutions of the country can participate in the competition;
2. Young people who want to participate in the competition shall write an essay on the topic “History of UN Preventive Diplomacy” in English (700-800 words, Times New Roman, 1.5 spacing, 14 font);
Procedure for organizing and conducting the competition
1. Students who want to participate in the competition shall send their brief information – name and surname, university, phone number, e-mail address and a 3x4 size photo to the email address hgiddkafedra429@gmail.com.
2. Each participating student shall register through the institute’s email address. The participant shall write the name, surname, name of the higher education institution, and their major.
3. Submissions will be accepted from the date of publication of this notice until October 20, 2022.
Procedure for determining and awarding winners
1. The result of the competition will be determined in the third half of October 2022 based on the total number of points collected by the judges.
2. The results of the competition are formalized through statements, and based on the results of the jury, the composition of the winners is approved by the order of the rector of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
3. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd places awarded for the winners of the competition.
