INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY
Every year on February 21, the world celebrates International Mother Language Day. This date has its roots in the UNESCO General Conference dedicated to International Mother Language Day on November 17, 1999. Since 2000, this date has been celebrated annually in the world under different slogans. Now there are about 6,000 languages in the world, and more than a thousand languages play an important role in education and society. However, only about a hundred languages are used in digital technologies.
Our Turkmen language, which has its roots in the ancient Oguz language, is one of the richest among the Turkic languages. On May 24, 1990, the Law of Turkmenistan “On the state language” was adopted. On April 12, 1993, a resolution of the Turkmen alphabet was adopted. The Turkmen national alphabet was put into force on January 1, 1996.
Today, the Turkmen language is passed from generation to generation, telling about the life, history and culture of the people.
