Conference Dedicated to the Freedom of the Media and Freedom of Speech
Referring to the plan of OSCE, “Plan of projects intended for the implementation by the Government of Turkmenistan jointly with the OSCE Center in Ashgabat in 2022” as a part of the project “ Support in the implementation of the provisions of the National Human Rights Action Plan (NHRAP) of Turkmenistan for 2021-2025 related to the freedom of the media and freedom of expression ”¸the Center organized a two-day online seminar on fostering law and practices that protect freedom of opinion and speech on May 16-17 , 2022.
The purpose of the event is to share expertise in support for the implementation of the provisions of the NHRAP related to the freedom of media and freedom of speech. Two international experts, Mr. Ion Bunduchi from Moldova and Mr. Mamuka Andguladze from Georgia facilitated the meeting for the benefit of the representatives of structures, involved in the implementation of the NHRAP provisions related to freedom of the media and freedom of speech.
In the conference participated Representatives of the media, law enforcement officials and teachers of higher education institutions of the country took part. A number of questions and answers were exchanged by international experts to exchange experiences in support of the implementation of the rules on freedom of the press and freedom of speech. The two-day event provided a broad overview of the international standards of journalists' duties, the strengthening of freedom of speech in the Constitution, as well as access to information, protection and strengthening of human rights, and copyright.
At the end of the workshop, the participants noted that our relations with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) will be further enhanced and will continue to be developed.
