A roundtable meeting on Gender Equality
On April 23, 2021, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a roundtable meeting dedicated to the election of Turkmenistan, on April 20, 2021, to the membership of the Executive Board of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women) for 2022-2024. It was attended by Gurbangul Atayeva, the Head of the National Center of Trade Unions and the Central Council of the Women’s Union, Bahar Seyidova, the Head of the Committee on Science, Education, Digital Systems, Sports and Culture of the People's Council of the National Council of Turkmenistan, Jennet Owekova, the Deputy of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, member of the Legislative Committee, Maya Alimova, the editor-in-chief of the Neutral Turkmenistan Newspaper, Sulgun Muhammedova, a senior researcher at the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan and Gulalek Chopanova, an instructor of the Institute of International Relations.
In their speeches, they noted the active cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations. UN-Women is a support body of the UN General Assembly, which was established in 2010 to increase the effectiveness of the organization's work in the field of gender equality and women's empowerment. It is acting as a key body to coordinate the work of the UN system on gender equality. It was also noted during the meeting that the The UN-Women Executive Board has a key leadership role, consisting of 51 members, who are elected by the UN Economic and Social Council for a period of 3 years.
At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed their gratitude to our esteemed President for his tireless efforts.
