DIPLOMATIC HARMONY AND LITERARY LEGACY: CELEBRATION OF “ENGLISH LANGUAGE DAY”
On April 23, 2026 within the framework of the ongoing language week titled “Languages – A Bouquet of Friendship”, a cultural and educational event was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The gathering was organized to celebrate the United Nations English Language Day and the 462nd anniversary of the birth of the great English playwright, William Shakespeare.
The event commenced with a performance of the song “My Heart’s in the Highlands”, praising the nature of Scotland, performed by M. Guzychyeva, a third-year student of the Faculty of International Economic Relations. Following the musical opening, students presented engaging insights into the role of the English language in global diplomatic relations, as well as the cultural and economic influence of the United Kingdom and the United States.
The celebration was further enriched by scenes from Shakespeare’s iconic masterpiece, “Romeo and Juliet”. Additionally, first-year student Artyk Begenjov delivered a masterful recitation of the famous monologue “The Seven Stages of Man”, conveying to the audience the profound philosophy regarding the roles individuals play within both society and diplomacy.
The program continued with a “Jeopardy” intellectual game, while a spirited performance by the Institute’s “Älem” dance group added a vibrant touch to the festivities. A specially designed “English Language” corner, featuring beautiful wall displays, provided extensive information on the culture, prominent figures, historical heritage, and contemporary roles of English-speaking countries in international cooperation. Throughout the event, participants celebrated English as a “bridge for international cooperation”, showcasing the linguistic proficiency and talent of the nation's future diplomats.
In their concluding remarks, the students expressed their deepest gratitude to the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Hero Arkadag, and President Arkadagly Hero Serdar, for providing all the necessary conditions to study, learn, and create in such a wonderful era.
