WORKSHOP “INNOVATIVE METHODS OF TEACHING FOREIGN LANGUAGES”
On January 12, 2023, the Department of World Languages of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan conducted a workshop “Innovative methods of teaching foreign languages”, with the participation of English and Russian language teachers of the secondary schools no. 76, 72, 68 of Ashgabat city. The aim of the event is to implement the tasks arising from the “Concept for the improvement of teaching foreign languages in Turkmenistan”. During the workshop O.Hemzayev, a senior lecturer of the Department of World Languages of the Institute, made a presentation on the topic “Technology in English language teaching”, N. Zulpiyev, a senior lecturer of the same department presented on “Interactive methods of teaching foreign languages”. T.Babayeva, a Russian language teacher of the institute, made an effective presentation on the topic “Infographics in Russian language lessons”, as well as A.Bayramova, head of educaional department of the “Pak Nesil” Educational Center in Ashgabat told about “The importance of foreign languages in the labor markets”.
The participants of the seminar exchanged ideas and experiences on innovative methods and best practices of teaching foreign languages. The workshop was very interesting and effective. During the event, methods of teaching foreign languages to learners of different ages were widely discussed. Teachers also shared experiences on the use of various games, sketches, discussions, debates, songs, poems, videos, computers, internet, teaching and technical aids in language classes.
Moreover, during the workshop, the speakers emphasized the importance of the national and international experiences in the implementation of the important tasks set before foreign languages instructors of the country. It was also noted that under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan, in the country wide opportunities and conditions have been created for young generations to learn world languages. It is known, foreign languages skills are required almost in all jobs. Therefore, in Turkmenistan, special attention is paid to learning foreign languages. Since independence, foreign languages skills, their professional importance in secondary, vocational and higher education schools, and in the labor market have been identified among the priority tasks. This led to an increased interest in learning foreign languages.
