World Post Day
The Universal Postal Union is the first union of postal workers to partner with a UN Special Organization. The General Postal Union was created in 1874 with the ratification of the Treaty of Berne.
The Universal Postal Union is the second largest international organization in history. The General Postal Union got its name in 1878. The union is committed to helping organize and improve postal services internationally. The union is headquartered in Bern, Switzerland.
World Post Day was established by the Universal Postal Union in 1969 and is one of the annual international festivals. This Postal Festival is actively celebrated on October 9th every year for a week. At the 19th Universal Postal Congress in Hamburg in 1984, it was decided to turn World Postal Union Day into World Postal Day. World Post Day is considered the International Day of the United Nations. Every year more than 150 countries of the world hold various events on the occasion of World Post Day. The post office is one of the oldest in the world. People have kept in touch with other nations and places through the post office for a long time. Post is the oldest and most widely used form of communication between residents of other parts of the world. Each postman prevents 3000 trips.
