WORLD POST DAY
World Post Day was established by the Universal Postal Union in 1969 and is one of the annual international festivals. The celebration of the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union, founded in 1874 in Bern, the capital of Switzerland, was the first step in today's history. His official announcement came from the rostrum of the 1969 General Postal Union meeting in Tokyo, Japan. Since then, World Post Day is celebrated every year on October 9 in many countries around the world.
The holiday is also included in the system of world and international days of the United Nations and is intended to promote the popularization and development of postal services in the world. The main goal of International Post Day is to develop the role of the postal sector - the role of individuals and associations in the daily life of companies and their contribution to the socio-economic development of the country. There are approximately 650,000 post offices worldwide with over 5.3 million employees.
This provides ample opportunities for expanding the scope of postal services. On this day, not only employees of post offices, but also employees of Internet mail servers celebrate their professional holiday.
According to the Universal Postal Union, international mail speaks 6,800 languages of its customers and is the world's longest physical mail delivery network. It is designed to ensure the safe, efficient and cost-effective movement of goods and the exchange of ideas. Most postal operators make their own clothing, symbols, and specialty mail, contributing to the growing importance of mail in our society.
