CONFERENCE DEDICATED TO THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED NATIONS
On October 23, 2025, a conference dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the United Nations was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, leadership and representatives of the country’s ministries, high-level representatives of the United Nations in Turkmenistan, heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the country as well as professors, lecturers and students of the Institute attended the conference.
As part of the conference, an exhibition was held in the main hall of the Institute, organized jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the United Nations offices in Turkmenistan. The conference began with the opening speech by Gulshat Yusupova, Rector of the Institute. The Congratulatory Message of the President of Turkmenistan was presented by Rashid Meredov, the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs to the participants of the conference.
Afterwards, speeches were delivered by Dmitry Shlapachenko, the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, along with Jumamyrat Gurbangeldiyev, Minister of Education of Turkmenistan, Narine Sahakyan, the UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan, Murat Mammedov, Minister of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, Egor Zaitsev, Head of the Country Office of the World Health Organization in Turkmenistan, Maaike Bijker, Deputy Representative officer-in-charge at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) office in Turkmenistan, Philippe Saprykin, Deputy Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, Mammetguly Astanagulov, Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan.
During the conference, the strategic and long-term nature of cooperation with the UN system, the significant contribution of UN agencies to the implementation of the country’s national priorities, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals was particularly emphasized.
Moreover, the speakers emphasized the importance of Turkmenistan’s initiatives put forward at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, covering areas such as peace and security, sustainable transport, digital integration, ecology, water resources, youth and humanitarian cooperation, as well as the promotion of the principles of neutrality and international law.
At the end of the conference, on behalf of the participants of the conference, an Appeal to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov was adopted.
After the conference, Rashid Meredov, the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dmitry Shlapachenko, the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan signed the bilateral document on “Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations for 2026-2030”.
