Lecture was held with Belgian Journalist Derya Soysal
On May 14, 2026, a special training session for students of the Faculty of International Journalism was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The lecture was conducted by the renowned Belgian journalist and researcher of the history of Turkic countries, Derya Soysal. During the lecture the themes Diplomacy, Journalism and the Role of Modern Media in global politics and the Importance of Historical information in International Relations were discussed in detail.
The Belgian journalist, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the International Scientific-Practical Conference titled "Foreign Policy and Diplomacy of Turkmenistan: Cooperation for Peace, Safety, and Sustainable Development," emphasized that journalism serves as a cultural and diplomatic bridge between nations. It was also noted that conveying the shared historical heritage of Turkic people to the global community on a correct and scientific basis is a vital task for future journalists. Drawing on her extensive experience, the guest shared insightful information about the specifics of evaluating international events within the European media environment and the significance of diplomatic norms in journalism.
During the lecture students asked questions regarding the professional skills required for a journalist working in the international information space, methods of working with historical sources, and the specifics of collaborating with international news agencies. Holding such an educational session is a great importance of expanding the worldview of future international specialists and learning from global experience.
