Meeting dedicated to the High-Level Global Roundtable
On May 26, 2021, at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan a meeting dedicated to the High-Level Global Roundtable on Extractive Industries as an Engine for Sustainable Development that was held on May 25, 2021with participation of our highly esteemed President, as well as the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres, heads of several states and governments, ministers, heads of major international organizations, academic groups and representatives of analytical centers and civil society. The meeting, organized by the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, was attended by Rector of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Jumamyrat Gurbangeldiyev, the UN Resident Coordinator, Representative for UNICEF in Turkmenistan Christine Weigand, Rector of the International University of Oil and Gas named after Yagshygeldi Kakayev Bayrammyrat Atamanov, Head of the Department of Environmental Protection and Hydrometeorology of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Jumamyrat Saparmyradov, Head of the Strategic and Sustainable Development Department of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan Atajan Atayev, as well as in online format Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan at the United Nations Office at Geneva Atageldi Haljanov and Head of the United Nations Development Program for Turkmenistan Natya Natsvlishvili.
During the meeting, the participants noted that the Turkmen state, having joined to number of Conventions and Documents of the United Nations, including the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, is fully committed to its obligations and directs its peace-loving policy and creative potential to achieving global goals of sustainable development.
In particular, it was noted that initiatives of Turkmenistan on development of the UN Strategy aimed at implementing measures to develop low carbon energy, as well as creating an international Roadmap for the Development of Hydrogen as one of the key areas of energy sector under the auspices of the United Nations are of global importance for the peoples of the world.
