March 6 - International Dentists Day
International Dentists Day is celebrated annually on March 6 in many countries around the world as a professional holiday for dentists. The celebration of this professional holiday is a testament to the pioneering work in this area.
In 1790, John Greenwood, a dentist in Washington and George Washington's personal dentist, invented the toothpaste (a steel drill used in dentistry). Then came the invention of toothpaste and toothbrushes.
International Dentists Day was originally celebrated only as a national professional holiday in the United States. It then spread to other parts of North America. India was the first country outside the American continent to celebrate this holiday.
Dentistry is one of the oldest branches of medicine.
