The International Day of Peace
From time to time, humankind inevitably encounter different kinds of struggles, such as poverty, disease, lack of food, education, healthcare and most importantly conflicts and wars. In the face of such difficulties, the International Day of Peace is an inspiring reminder of what we can create together – Peace.
The International Day of Peace is celebrated around the world each year on September 21. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, the day coincided with the opening of the UN General Assembly. The 2022 theme for the International Day of Peace is “End racism. Build peace”. The dove flying with an olive branch in its beak is considered as the symbol of the day.
The International Day of Peace is mainly devoted to commemorate and strengthen the ideals of peace among all nations. It brings people together to fight against common problems and threats. During 24 hours, all arms are laid down. Violence and fights are ceased all around the world for peaceful negotiations.
Peace reminds us that regardless of where we come from or what languages we speak, we are more alike than we are different. It means freedom from disturbance and involves understanding each other and working together to build a culture of peace.
