International Day of Human Space Flight
On April 12, the entire world celebrates Aviation and Cosmonautics Day, a commemorative date dedicated to the first human spaceflight. This is a special day a triumph of science and of all those who work in the space industry today.
Cosmonautics Day was established as a holiday in our country by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on April 9, 1962, and received international status in 1968 at a conference of the International Aeronautical Federation.
On April 12, 1961, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human to leave the Earth's atmosphere and travel into outer space. This event marked a significant step in space exploration and opened new horizons for humanity.
The day also aims to raise public awareness of the importance of space science and technology and their potential in addressing global challenges such as climate change, energy security and sustainable development.
The International Day of Human Space Flight as by the Resolution (A/RES/65/271) is an important reminder of how far humanity has come in space exploration and how crucial it is to continue this exploration for the future of our planet and all of humanity. It is also a day to celebrate the achievements and contributions of those working in space science and technology and their role in creating a better future for us all.
