June 1 – International Children’s Day
On the first day of summer, many countries celebrate International Children’s Day. International Children’s Day is one of the oldest international holidays. It is celebrated annually on June 1 in different parts of the world as an initiative for children’s well-being and rights. This day is celebrated as part of a greater cause that revolves around ending child abuse, ending the deprivation of children of their rights, and making efforts to improve the lives of children all around the world. The decision to hold it was made in 1925 at the World Conference on the Welfare of Children in Geneva. In 1949, a congress of women was held in Paris, at which an oath was made to fight tirelessly for a lasting peace, as the only guarantee for the happiness of children. In the same year, at the Moscow session of the Council of the International Democratic Federation of Women, in accordance with the decisions of its 2nd Congress, today’s holiday was established. And a year later, in 1950, on June 1, the first International Children’s Day was held, after which this holiday is held. Annually. Subsequently, the holiday began to be celebrated annually around the world. And the main legal document that considers the rights of children at the international level is the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted by the UN on November 20, 1989. Since then, the UN has considered the protection of the rights, life and health of children as one of the main directions of its activity.
It is celebrated by more than 60 countries of the world. The holiday has its own official flag. On the green, the colors of life, multi-colored children’s figurines are depicted, which symbolize the diverse world, as well as the tolerant attitude of people towards each other. They carelessly circle around the globe – their common home.
Children’s Day has its own traditions. In them, a festive mood and accompanying entertainment events with gifts and various goodies coexist with specific deeds of adults aimed at ensuring the prosperous existence of the little inhabitants of the planet. But Children’s Day is not only a fun holiday for the children themselves, it is also a reminder to society of the need to protect the rights of the child, so that all children grow up happy, study, do what they love and become wonderful parents and citizens of their country in the future.
The International Children’s Day is widely celebrated in Turkmenistan also. Traditionally in Turkmenistan various events for children are held by the state and public sectors of the country on this date. Extensive care for the young generation, its harmonious development and health, worthy upbringing and education, creation of the necessary conditions for obtaining chosen professions, doing science and creativity, physical culture and sports is an invariable priority of the state policy of Turkmenistan. The adopted plans and strategies designed for the long and medium term are aimed at achieving the goals set, including the program “the National program for the socio-economic development of Turkmenistan in 2022-2052”. Noting that a significant role in their successful implementation is assigned to our youth, our esteemed President expressed confidence that they will adequately cope with the solution of the important tasks set.
