INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN JUDGES
Since 2022, the United Nations has recognized March 10 as the International Day of Women Judges. By celebrating this day, the UN seeks to promote women’s current and future participation in all levels of the judiciary, acknowledge the challenges faced and progress made by women judges and inspire the next generation. It is also a day to draw attention to the barriers to advancement that women still face in achieving equal representation in the judiciary.
This day also highlights the important role of women in the peaceful settlement of disputes between states and in the development of international law.
Women on the bench bring balance lived experience, empathy and fresh perspectives to justice. Yet in many countries, women still hold only a fraction of judicial seats – especially at the highest levels.
In this day, we celebrate every women who upholds the law, protects rights and proves justice is stronger when it reflects all of society.
