Turkmenistan got acquainted with international experience in implementing SDG16
A seminar to familiarize yourself with international experience in coordination, monitoring and reporting on human rights and the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16) was conducted by UNDP and the Government of Turkmenistan.
The event was held at the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan, and was attended by members of the Working Group of the Interdepartmental Commission to Ensure the Implementation of Turkmenistan’s International Obligations in the Field of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law and members of the Working Group on the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Turkmenistan.
The speaker was international UNDP expert Thomas Baranovas, who introduced the participants to the international practice of other countries, including the work of the UNDP Management Center in Oslo, and preliminary recommendations for collective identification of problems and opportunities for fulfilling human rights obligations within the framework of the implementation of SDG 16 in Turkmenistan.
This workshop highlights the importance of implementing SDG 16 as a separate goal to promote good governance, the rule of law and access to justice, according to a UNDP press release.
The seminar was held within the framework of the project “Providing assistance in the implementation of the National Action Plan of Turkmenistan in the field of human rights for 2021–2025”, implemented by UNDP jointly with the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan. The project aims to strengthen the national system for the protection, promotion and implementation of human rights in Turkmenistan by harmonizing laws and practices in accordance with the country's international human rights obligations.
