TURKMENISTAN — TAJIKISTAN: a new page of good relations
After gaining independence, Turkmenistan established mutually advantageous, friendly, bilateral and multilateral relations with all countries. The principles of Turkmen-Tajik friendship and cooperation, which are rooted in ancient times, are now enriched with new meaning. Relations between the peoples of the two brotherly countries also have strong historical roots. Since the first days of independence, the two countries have been harmoniously implementing a policy based on the principles of friendship, trust, and mutual support, maintaining the ancient closeness, and successfully developing it in trade and economy, fuel and energy, agriculture, science and education, culture and other fields. Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of comprehensive relations with Republic of Tajikistan. Those relations are based on the traditions of friendship, good cooperation, common historical roots and spiritual and cultural values of the two friendly peoples. The similarity of views of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan on the main issues of regional and world politics creates a positive condition for joint efforts to ensure global peace, security and stability. On January 27, 1993, with the signing of the Memorandum on establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries, a new historical period began in the political relations between the two independent states - Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tajikistan. In February 1995, the Embassy of Republic of Tajikistan was opened in Ashgabat. Great importance is attached to the expansion and qualitative development of trade-economic, fuel-energy and cultural-humanitarian relations between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. Tajikistan is considered an important and promising partner in these areas. The work of the joint Turkmen-Tajik intergovernmental commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation of the two countries is given great importance. His work is aimed at increasing the pace of foreign economic relations between the two countries. In order to significantly increase the level of cooperation in the field of business community, to establish regular relations between entrepreneurs, joint exhibitions of products, economic forums and other joint activities of an economic sphere are regularly held. There are many nations and peoples in the world who are similar in language, customs, culture and even in appearance. Turkmen and Tajik peoples can be included among such peoples. The peoples of the two countries are connected not only by geographical proximity, but also by friendly relations and common historical destinies. Literary and cultural cooperation between the two countries and two brotherly peoples has deep historical roots. The similarities in the folklore of the two peoples, the closeness in the epic legends testify to the fact that the relations between the peoples with similar history, lifestyle, and traditions are deep. On July 16, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin made visit to our country. This visit greatly contributed to the further activation of friendly relations. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the friendly country was received by the President of Turkmenistan. In the high-level negotiations, the issues of further development of the existing relations between the two countries were considered. The visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan opens the way for new positions in Turkmen-Tajik relations. It provides a broad perspective on the future development of partnerships. Such important events, which will affect not only the peoples of the two countries, but also millions of others, are another great proof that the development of the Motherland is confidently moving forward along the path of happiness.
