Turkmenistan and the UN reaffirm path towards further strengthening of cooperation
In the Epoch of the Revival of a new era of powerful state of Turkmenistan under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov continues consistently implement the foreign policy course, based on the status of permanent neutrality, the principles of peacefulness, good neighborliness, mutual respect and equal constructive partnerships. Our country stands for the optimal use of the potential the United Nations, its political and diplomatic tools and high authority in order to reach constructive solutions and ensure universal and comprehensive security as a key condition for the fulfillment of all strategic tasks of the UN, including achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. In its activities during the forthcoming session of the General Assembly UN Turkmenistan will be guided by strict adherence to the principles neutrality, non-intervention, firm commitment to peaceful, political means of resolving conflicts and contradictions.
On May 3, 2024, the first meeting of the “Turkmenistan-UN” Strategic Advisory Council was held in a hybrid format at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. In accordance with the program, the Council meeting was held in two sessions. During the first session of the meeting, issues of upcoming steps to prepare the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between Turkmenistan and the UN (UNDAF) for the period 2026-2030 were discussed. At the second session, the parties exchanged views on the prospects for developing cooperation in the field of sustainable development, including joint projects. In order to create conditions for systematic work, the issue of developing an interaction mechanism within the framework of the Strategic Advisory Council was also considered. During the meeting, a Roadmap for the development of a new Framework Program for Cooperation in the Field of Sustainable Development between Turkmenistan and the UN for the period 2026-2030 was approved, and also considered 8 projects in the field of youth policy, digitalization, demography, green energy, climate change and other areas. At the end of the meeting a ceremony was held to sign documents in the field of environmental protection, health care, agriculture, as well as in other important areas.
