THEMATIC SESSION OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF PEACE AND TRUST
On December 11, 2021, a solemn plenary session of the Forum of Peace and Trust was held in the Congress Center of our capital with the participation of our esteemed President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Then the Forum continued its work at three thematic sessions under the titles: «Policy of Peace and Trust: Neutrality and Preventive Diplomacy in Peacebuilding», «Inseparable link between a culture of peace and the sustainable development agenda», «Human dimension of the processes of building a universal culture of peace and trust».
The first thematic session was held in the large conference hall of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The heads and representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations, professors and students of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, media representatives attended this session. The session was moderated by Ambassador Natalia Gherman, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Asia.
Ambassador Aksoltan Atayeva, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations; Helga Maria Schmid, Secretary-General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe; Vladimir Norov, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization; Mr. Kairat Sarybay, Executive Director of the Secretariat of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measure in Asia (CICA); Vladimir Voronkov, Under-Secretary-General, United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office; Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva; Miroslav Jenča, Assistant UN Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and the Americas; Yerlan Baidaulet, Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security; Ahmed Kawesa Sengendo, Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for economic affairs; Ambassador Terhi Hakala, EU Special Representative for Central Asia; Deborah Lyons, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan; Ashita Mittal, United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Representative to Central Asia and others made speeches.
At the conference the speakers emphasized that one of the priorities of the foreign policy implemented by Hero-Arkadag is the development of cooperation with world-renowned international and regional organizations for global peace, security and sustainable development. It was also noted in the speeches that Neutrality is one of the indisputable and important factors of the success of Turkmenistan in domestic development and on the world arena, and that the emergence of such a universal instrument for solving acute problems in the sphere of international relations contributed to the formation of new conceptual foundations of the world order, more perfect approaches to solving actual problems faced by humanity at the beginning of the third millennium.
So, a round table discussion was held at the institute aiming to sum up the results of the thematic sessions, where short reports were presented by Ambassador Natalia Gherman, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Asia; Dmitry Shlapachenko, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan; Ambassador Esen Aydogdyev, Rector of the International University for the humanities and development. At the end of the discussion, the final document was adopted.
