International Youth Day
International Youth Day is an annual holiday celebrated on 12 August. In 1999, the UN General Assembly in Resolution No. "A / RES 54/120" supported the recommendation of the World Conference of Ministers for Youth Affairs to declare August 12 as International Youth Day. The Assembly recommended that outreach activities be held in support of the International Day to raise awareness of the 1995 World Program of Action for Youth. A number of countries have their own national "Youth Days".
This year's theme for the Day is “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”.
The UN emphasizes that it is impossible to solve problems in the food sector without the participation of young people, because the rapidly increasing population of the planet is also rapidly getting younger. During this year's UN Economic and Social Council Youth Forum, participants discussed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on human health, the environment and food systems. As part of the formal outcome recommendations, the young delegates to the Forum stressed the importance of working towards fairer food systems.
International Youth Day this year aims to provide young people with a platform for discussion ahead of the Food Systems Summit in September this year.
Official events in honor of the International Youth Day this year will be held in a virtual format.
