International Sudoku Day
Every year on September 9, people throughout the world mark International Sudoku Day to celebrate the logic-based puzzle, Sudoku. The day is also observed to promote the game and introduce it to those who are still not aware of the fun game. The day was proclaimed by The World Puzzle Federation in 2013. Sudoku can be described as a logic-based number-placement puzzle. According to a recent study published in the International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, the more people over 50 engage in games such as sudoku and crosswords, the better their brains function. A Sudoku-like puzzle was first published in the French newspaper 'La Siecle' in 1892. The name “sudoku” is abbreviated from the Japanese suuji wa dokushin ni kagiru, which means “the numbers must remain single.”
