INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FRIENDSHIP
July 30 is one of the most important holidays in the calendar – International Day of Friendship. The initiative to celebrate the International Day of Friendship was proposed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
On April 27, 2011, at its 65th session, by 65/275 resolution, the UN General Assembly declared July 30 as the International Day of Friendship, inviting international, state and regional organizations to celebrate this day in accordance with cultural traditions. The UN resolution especially emphasizes the importance of the new date in strengthening friendly relations between different nations. On the premise that friendship between countries, nations, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and provide an opportunity to build bridges between societies that honor cultural diversity.
As the Roman politician, speaker, philosopher Cicero noted by: “There is nothing better and more pleasant in the world than friendship; to exclude friendship from life is the same as to deprive the world of sunshine”. Because only friendship make countries and cultures closer and stronger. It is because of the deep meaning and importance of friendship that this international day was founded as a manifestation of a noble and priceless feeling in all people around the world.
Currently, in many countries of the world, events held annually to promote friendship and tolerant attitude towards others.
