Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev visited the UN Headquarters in New York to participate in the events of the High-Level Counter-Terrorism Week
The Third United Nations High-level Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies of Member States was held on Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 June 2023 on the overarching theme of “Addressing Terrorism through Reinvigorated Multilateralism and Institutional Cooperation”. So, the delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev participated on June 19-20, 2023 in the events within the framework of the High-Level Counter-Terrorism Week in New York. The United Nations Counter-Terrorism Week is a biennial gathering of Member States and international counter-terrorism partners.
On June 19, the head of the delegation spoke at the second session of the main event-the Meeting of the Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies of the UN Member States.
In his speech, V.Hajiyev, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan noted the need to strengthen the mechanism of the updated Action Plan for the implementation of the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia and continue the efforts of the countries of the region within the framework of the Dushanbe process.
Here from this point of view, it should be noted with dignity that The priorities of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy are to maximize the promotion of comprehensive peace, stability and security, consistent implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, consolidation of neighborly relations and cooperation in the region and beyond, creation of favorable conditions for the implementation of disarmament, settlement of the existing conflicts and contradictions by peaceful political means, and ensuring security.
Consultation with UN member states, its organizations, international and regional organizations, civil society organizations and the private sector to exchange information and experience, as well as to consider opportunities to enhance cooperation in key areas of the fighting against terrorism within the framework of the four main areas of the UN's Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. The meeting was an important stage in the preparation of the new Agenda for Peace proposed by the Secretary General of the Organization.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister held bilateral meetings with UN Under-Secretary-General, Head of the Counter-Terrorism Directorate Vladimir Voronkov, as well as Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) Natalia Gherman. During the meeting some issues related to the cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN on the implementation of the UN Global Strategy against Terrorism as well as the strengthening of international legal cooperation and the implementation of the international legal framework for the fight against terrorism were also discussed. It should be noted that both parties paid special attention to the implementation of the Regional Action Plan for Central Asia for the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
This means that such a high level of participation of the Turkmen delegation in such events testifies to the determination of Turkmenistan to fight terrorism and ensure regional and global security.
