World Tourism Day
Since 1980, World Tourism Day has been celebrated annually on September 27. This is because on the same date in 1970, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) adopted its Charter, which was considered an important stage in world tourism, and still operates under the same Charter. The purpose of World Tourism Day is to raise awareness about the importance of tourism in influencing the social, cultural, political and economic values of the international community.
The theme of World Tourism Day in 2021 is “Tourism for Inclusive Development”. The official colour of the holiday is blue.
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is the United Nations’ leading organization in the field of tourism. It offers the sector leadership and support in advancing knowledge and tourism policies worldwide. Its goal is to promote tourism as a driver of economic growth and environmental sustainability.
