FEBRUARY 13 IS WORLD RADIO DAY
Radio is one of the most widespread forms of mass media. Throughout history, radio has become a promoter of state policy and has been integrated into every person's life and existence since the day it began operating. Therefore, observing World Radio Day on February 13th every year is of great importance.
The resolution to celebrate World Radio Day was adopted during UNESCO's 36th conference on November 11, 2011. Subsequently, in 2012, based on the approval of the UN General Assembly, the international date for World Radio Day was declared as February 13th of each year. This date is linked to the founding of the UN Radio on February 13, 1946.
As is known, the European Broadcasting Union was established on February 12, 1950. Headquartered in Geneva, it has members not only in Europe but also in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Turkmen radio, on the other hand, traces its origins back to the "Radio Amateurs" society founded in 1926. On November 7, 1927, the "Turkmen Radio" society was established, and the first radio broadcasts began to air.
Consequently, Turkmen radio began to grow rapidly, performing great work in reporting economic achievements, important social events, and news from the front during the World War of 1941-1945. The joyful news of the Great Victory won in the war was delivered to the Turkmen people through the radio, read by announcer Arap Gurbanov.
During our period of Independence, Turkmen radio reached a new level of quality. Currently, there are radio channels in our country such as "Watan," "Char Tarapdan," "Miras," and "Owaz." Each radio channel has special departments according to its direction, and several programs are prepared within each department based on a scheduled plan. The radio broadcasts regularly aired in our country do not limit themselves to providing news; they also offer spiritual enjoyment through many interesting and educational cultural-leisure segments.
