INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DAY
Human Rights Day is observed every year on December 10 – the day in 1948 when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights empowers us all. The principles enshrined in the Declaration are as relevant today as they were in 1948. We must stand up for our own rights and those of others. By taking action in our daily lives, we can uphold the rights that protect us all, promoting the kinship of all human beings.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a milestone document that proclaimed the inalienable rights to which everyone is inherently entitled as a human being, regardless of their race, color, religion, gender, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth, or other status.
On this day, various events and activities take place globally to raise awareness about human rights issues and promote respect for human dignity. These activities may include seminars, conferences, exhibitions, cultural performances, and campaigns by human rights organizations, civil society groups, and governments. They highlight the importance of human rights education, advocacy, and the need to address ongoing challenges related to human rights violations.
International Human Rights Day reaffirms the fundamental principles of equality, justice, and dignity for all individuals, serving as a call to action to promote and protect human rights worldwide.
In December 1948, UNESCO became the first United Nations agency to place the Universal Declaration at the heart of its mission, promoting it across the world through education and media.
On the International Day of Human Rights, various activities are organized globally to raise awareness, promote human rights, and advocate for their protection.
